Hanna Resource Group looks forward to the KY SHRM conference each year– it’s a great time to network, learn more about regulatory changes and employment trends, and make a dent in those credits required for re-certification for professional designations.
This year was extra special, though, as HRG was thrilled to be a part of over half a dozen sessions and events – whether you knew it or not, HRG was EVERYWHERE!
Keynote: Meeting Kentucky’s Workforce Challenge
Lyle Hanna facilitated Wednesday’s keynote session with Secretary Hal Heiner of Kentucky’s Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, and Jay Box, President of Kentucky Community & Technical College System. Both leaders are looking down the pipeline at potential deficiencies in the workforce, so it was great to hear how they are trying to partner with businesses to determine needs and then work with educators to fill them.
Step right up, step right up, and see Lyle serving as Ringmaster at the networking carnival! Along with his lovely assistant Candra Bryant, Lyle helped people to win cash and prizes with the spinning wheel while also handing out our awesome HRG-branded playing cards.
Session: Strategic HR – Being an HR Professional AND a Business Partner
While the HR Leaders strategic panel led by Lyle was early in the morning (7:30 am!) on both days, it was full of top talent and fun treats to help jump start your day! In Wednesday’s session, we heard from Tanja Oquendo, Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, & Chief Administrative Officer for KentuckyOne Health, Bob Smith, Senior Vice President of Global Human Resources for Papa John’s International, and Scott Nielsen, Director of Human Resources at Big Ass Solutions.
Thursday’s session opened the floor up for us to hear from Kirsten Hawley, Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer with Brown-Foreman, Mark Lagestee, VP Global Talen and Organization Development, Yum! Brands, and Tony Bohn, VP, Chief Human Resources Officer at Norton Healthcare.
In addition to sharing their knowledge and experience, Brown-Forman donated some delicious bourbon balls, Norton Healthcare brought selfie sticks, and HRG provided travel phone chargers to help attendees stay connected connected!
Session: Tips & Tricks to Excel with Excel!
If practical knowledge is more your style, Sr HR Consultant and compensation expert Candra Bryant and HRG Business Partner Kurt Kessler provided a computer-driven session on how to maximize Excel for use in compensation work. Attendees walked away with a nifty little cheat sheet as well as a spreadsheet and tutorial PowerPoint to help walk them through the tips and tricks demonstrated in the session.
Session: Job Analysis – The Hammer in Your HR Toolbox
A practical tool in any HR professional’s toolbox is Job Analysis, so Consultants Jean-Paul Philippe and Jaime Horne presented two sessions on the methodology and practical application of job analysis techniques. While they had great examples and information to share, participants also got a chance to discuss their questions and experience in small groups before wrapping up.
It is always a joy to spend a few days with other members of the profession who are as passionate about furthering HR as we are, and we hope that you enjoyed the experience, as well! But we don’t want to wait until next year to hear from you, so feel free to reach out at any time!
